This week, job trailers will arrive on site. Crews will continue array grading, installing access roads and laydown yards, and installing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures.
Construction Update 9/22/2023
This week, installation of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures began. Work will continue on site entrances and the access road to the laydown yard over the next few weeks.
Construction Update 9/8/2023
Survey crews have started prep work around site entrances and the laydown yard. Over the next few weeks, entrances will be installed near 269 and Portland, as well as on Strecker west of 269. Work on the access road to the laydown yard will continue during this time.
In mid- and late September, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) measures will begin onsite, including installation. Civil activities will continue.
Construction Begins
Construction has started! Over the next few weeks, you may see construction traffic as crews start clearing and grubbing the site. In early September, workers will install the site entrances on 269 and Portland, and one on Strecker, West of 269.
Apex Ohio Hosts Community Meeting to Launch Construction
On August 9, 2023, Apex Ohio hosted a community meeting to provide information on the construction of Wheatsborough Solar. At this meeting, Apex provided updated maps of the project, information
on the project traffic and general information on construction of a solar facility. In addition, project management and construction staff from Apex and its contractors were on site to answer questions from the community.
Full construction will commence the week of August 21, 2023 and will continue over the next 15-18 months. The project is expected to reach commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025.
Pre-Construction Notice (10/18/22)
Wheatsborough Solar, LLC is preparing to construct the Wheatsborough Solar Facility on leased private land in Groton Township (Erie County). The solar farm will consist of up to 700 acres of solar panels, along with access roads, electric collection cables, a substation, a temporary laydown yard(s), an operation and maintenance storage container and a battery energy storage system.
Please be assured that during work on the project described above, Wheatsborough Solar will comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances. Prior to commencing construction of the facility, Wheatsborough Solar will comply with all applicable pre-construction conditions of the certificate issued by the Ohio Power Siting Board.
Timeline for Construction of the Project
Construction of the Wheatsborough Solar Facility is expected to begin on or around 10/25/2022. The Facility is anticipated to be in-service by the second quarter of 2024. Construction in 2022 will include activities such as cover crop planting and tree clearing, with full construction starting around spring 2023.
Restoration Activities:
Construction activities will occur only on property that Wheatsborough Solar has leased or purchased for the project. In areas where disturbances occur that are temporary in nature outside of panel areas, access roads, etc., Wheatsborough Solar will restore the property that is temporarily disturbed to the state that it was in prior to the construction activities. Once the work is complete, restoration will begin as soon as weather permits.
